As greenware, each button has been individually shaped and hand brushed with steel wool. They are ready for the first bisque firing.
The bisque firing is at a low temperature and removes the water from the clay turning it into a more durable ceramic, ready for glazing.
Smooth as silk
Glaze must be worked in the mortar and pestle to produce a satin-like consistency. Each button is then hand painted by brush.
At this stage of the button process, the pieces must not touch each other inside the kiln. High temperature firing sets the color and glassy texture. The result is the finished ceramic piece.
